Shayne studied for a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology, Conservation, and Wildlife Biology at Murdoch University in Western Australia. Upon her return to Singapore, she started work at VES Hospital, where she decided to continue her studies for a Specialist Diploma in Veterinary Clinical Practice at Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

She has a keen passion for animals and has been a proud owner of a variety of pets such as rats, guinea pigs, bearded dragons, and cats.
