Dr Bartel graduated with distinction from the University of Edinburgh in 2008. She worked in both small animal and emergency medicine for a number of years before pursuing specialty training in anaesthesia and analgesia at Cornell University in 2012.
Her clinical interests as a board-certified anaesthesiologist include local & regional anaesthesia, anaesthesia of the critical patient, and the gastrointestinal effects of anaesthesia. Growing areas of interest include Just Culture approaches in veterinary medicine and evaluating inherent bias to clinical practice.
Dr. Bartel serves as the President Elect Aside for the North American Veterinary Anaesthesia Society, has previously served on the American College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia’s examination committee, and was a councillor for the College of Veterinarians of Ontario.
When Dr. Bartel is not at the hospital, she enjoys travelling, baking, scuba diving, and reading with her cats, Ziggy and Brownie.
