Dr Diane Wilson

Specialty:
Veterinary Anaesthesia
Education:
American and RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia, DVM MS, Dip ACVAA, MRCVS

Dr Diane Wilson graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Louisiana State University in the USA in 2001. Following graduation she practised at a busy mixed animal hospital in the United Kingdom where she treated everything from piranhas to peacocks! During this time she developed a keen interest in anaesthesia and the management of acute and chronic pain in her patients.

Dr Diane returned to Louisiana State University where she completed a three year residency program in Veterinary Anesthesia and Pain Management. During her time at Louisiana State University she also obtained a Master of Science degree in Veterinary Medicine with her thesis work focusing on the impact of potent opioids and temperature on the anaesthetic requirements of dogs. Dr Diane became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia in 2007.

After her residency she moved to Ohio in the USA where she became one of the first few anaesthesia specialists in the country to work in a private specialty setting. She enjoyed the challenges of establishing an anaesthesia and pain management section at one of the countries leading multi specialty referral hospitals and spent nine happy years there.

Dr Diane returned to the United Kingdom and practised at two renowned multidisciplinary hospitals and also had a role as an adjunct professor for the University of Nottingham. During her time in the UK she also became recognised as a specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

In January 2018 she relocated to Singapore to join the team at VES. Tailoring the anaesthetic plan to meet the individual needs and requirements of her patients is a foremost concern for her. She believes that a “one size fits all” approach is not suited to the best quality of anaesthesia care. Dr Diane has a special interest and understanding of the management of anaesthesia for the senior citizens of the pet world and her desire is to minimise the anxiety and stress associated with anaesthetics for all her patients…..and their human families!

Dr Diane has previously been a member of the examination committee for the American College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia and currently serves her college as a member of the Board of Directors. Dr Diane enjoys lecturing and has had the opportunity to present talks in the United States, Europe and the Caribbean on many anaesthesia related topics. She has also published on anaesthesia and analgesia topics in several peer reviewed journals.

During her free time Dr Diane would like to say she enjoys ballet and modern dance, performing in opera and playing the piano… but the reality is she’d be completely useless at all of those things! She does however love to spend time outdoors hiking, jogging and birdwatching (which she often combines) and is excited to explore her new home here in Singapore.
