Yes. Veterinary chemotherapy uses lower doses than in humans and is designed to minimise side effects, allowing most pets to maintain a good quality of life.
Many pets continue to eat, play, and enjoy life during treatment. Our priority is to balance effective care with your pet’s comfort and quality of life.
Your regular vet is like a general practitioner for humans – managing routine care, vaccinations, and early signs of illness. They’re often the first to detect something unusual and may perform initial tests like bloodwork or X-rays before referring to a specialist.
A veterinary oncologist is a cancer specialist – like an oncologist in human medicine. They undergo years of additional training focused on diagnosing and treating cancer in animals. From designing chemotherapy plans to managing complex or advanced cases, they work closely with your regular vet to provide a coordinated, expert-led treatment plan.
The duration of treatment depends on the cancer type, stage and the treatment plan. Some pets may only need a few sessions, while others may continue for several months. Our oncologist will discuss a clear timeline with you during the initial consultation.
Most pets tolerate chemotherapy much better than humans. Hair loss is rare, and side effects like nausea or fatigue are usually mild and temporary, if they occur at all. We closely monitor your pet and adjust treatment to keep them as comfortable as possible.
